Marcie Bronkar + Hunter Douglas

Marcie Bronkar + Hunter Douglas

October 22, 2021 By Christine Bucks

A lifelong passion for color combined with her work as a painter are what drive Marcie Bronkar’s vision and creativity.

As an accomplished artist based in New York City, Marcie draws inspiration from historical period artwork and objects, reinterpreting them with a modern twist that forms the basis of her textile designs. Her collections feature highly stylized patterns and nuanced colorways that pay homage to their historical roots, yet beautifully integrate with today’s more contemporary traditional décor.

I feel a responsibility to interpret historical design in a modern way, so it can live in a modern home.

We’re delighted to introduce Marcie as one of our newest Featured Artists in our Design Studio™ program. The seven custom textile designs she created are available as drapery, side panels, Roman and roller shades, pillows and fabric by the yard—and include two signature embroideries—August and Grand Fleur.

Her designs coordinate with the full line of Hunter Douglas window treatments, as well as stand on their own—elevating your view.

“While creating my collection for Hunter Douglas, I relied on the premise that natural light can and will enhance the texture and dimension of these textiles when brought into the home.”

Marcie’s collection of vintage batik fabrics led to this batik-inspired design, where hand-dyed fabrics are stamped with wax and cured in the sunshine of exotic locales. For a distinctive, elegant touch, this pattern perfectly juxtaposes with clean-lined furniture.

Grand Fleur

The 17th century Venetian vestment and shawls in Marcie’s archives were the inspiration for this newly created embroidered pattern. The chain stitch technique adds a fresh approach that is at home in transitional interiors.

Design Studio Menagerie Fabric Swatches

Named after a classic English Jacobean pattern rendered in a toile de Jouy style, Marcie took original artwork and translated the design for a modern aesthetic, resulting in a fabric that can take center stage or serve as a foundational accent.

Design Studio Oleander Fabric Swatches

This look was inspired from Marcie’s treasured paisley collection. Its classic, modern design—from the original pattern’s magnificent intricacy of textures and yarns—is versatile, and complements formal as well as playful interiors.

Design Studio August Fabric Swatches

A simple yet elegant design inspired from a charming classic English foulard—a lightweight silk decorated with a pattern. The light woven weave is the backdrop for this captivating embroidery that adds a finishing touch to a traditional aesthetic.

Modern, yet with a classic transitional hand. In this custom watercolor and pencil art, Marcie created a soft, free-flowing floral dance across the fabric—perfect for evoking serenity in a room.
