Hunter Douglas Launches Innovative GreenScreen® Sea-Tex™ Fabric Made From Recovered Shoreline Plastic

Leading Manufacturer in Window Coverings Introduces Sustainable Screen Shade Fabric

PEARL RIVER, NY (July 7, 2020)—Hunter Douglas, the world’s leading manufacturer of custom window treatments, is excited to announce the U.S. launch of their new innovative and unique GreenScreen® Sea-Tex™ fabric, a sustainable fabric created from recovered shoreline plastics. The launch in the U.S. follows a successful launch in Europe, making the GreenScreen Sea-Tex fabric a global product and another example of the company’s focus on highly functional and beautiful window covering innovations.

The process of creating this one-of-a-kind window covering began when Hunter Douglas approached Bionic®, a mission driven material engineering company that has established coastal recycling infrastructure in developing nations that delivers fully traceable textiles from marine and coastal plastic. Hunter Douglas engaged with Bionic to fabricate a yarn, engineered from recovered coastal and marine plastic, to be used as the key ingredient for their new GreenScreen Sea-Tex screen shade fabric. The fabric is Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Bronze, a globally recognized measure of safer, more sustainable products made for the circular economy.

GreenScreen Sea-Tex fabrics are available in a 3% openness and five neutral tones. The GreenScreen Sea-Tex collection is part of the larger Hunter Douglas Designer Screen Shades line, expertly crafted to provide light filtration and UV protection while maintaining the view to the outside. Available in a range of 67 fabrics, the Designer Screen Shades range from 14% to 0% openness, to perfectly complement any style or décor.

Hunter Douglas continually strives for the best in design and innovation of unique textiles to incorporate into their extensive product offering. Their highly engineered products offer sustainable solutions at the window, providing UV protection for furniture, flooring and art, while beautifully filtering light into the space, reducing the need for artificial light. Hunter Douglas Screen Shades also provide a layer of insulation at the window, keeping heat out during the summer and in during the winter, contributing to energy savings for the homeowner. The GreenScreen Sea-Tex fabric is an exciting addition to the Hunter Douglas offering of sustainable products. With the launch of this fabric, Hunter Douglas hopes to bring awareness to the global issue of plastic ocean waste that endangers our oceans and sea life each year.
