Window Treatment Color Trend Report — 2022

2022 Colors of the Year

Mother Nature is taking center stage in 2022, with shades of green being the top picks for color of the year from many of the key “in the know” players.

However, green doesn’t hold the coveted top spot. That belongs to a brand new blue, created by Pantone.

A Fusion of Blue and Violet Red

The Pantone pick for color of the year, called Very Peri, is a periwinkle blue with violet red undertones that adds a pop of color to a space. Very Peri encourages creativity, imagination and the possibilities that lay ahead as we reconnect with our lives outside the confines of our homes.

This is the first time Pantone has created a new color for its color of the year program—and like other Pantone choices from previous years, we’re sure to see Very Peri turning up everywhere.

Nods to Nature

In contrast to the energy radiated by Very Peri, green is a nurturing, comforting hue that signifies growth and new beginnings—embodying a fresh start and hope for the future. Green is also a way of channeling the outdoors inside, and bringing with it a calming effect to our otherwise busy lives.

Olive Sprig—a warmer, lush green—is the PPG selection for color of the year. Similar in hue to sage leaves, its yellow undertones pair well with warm colors, like soft rose.

Another botanical-inspired color, silvery, neutral-green October Mist from Benjamin Moore contains gray along with a hint of yellow, for a soothing, relaxed shade.

Going from mist to haze is Evergreen Fog. A gray-green with just a hint of blue, Evergreen Fog pairs well with earthy neutrals like gold, tan and beige. This pick, from Sherwin Williams, adds richness and depth to interiors.

Not all the greens for 2022 are subdued, though. If you’re looking to brighten a space with green, Breezeway from Behr is the ticket. Reminiscent of sea glass, Breezeway evokes a beachy vibe that works well with shades of white, gray and taupe.

Pairing This Year’s Colors with Hunter Douglas

Whether you opt to infuse a room with Very Peri or simply use the hue as an accent color, its spirited tone calls for fabrics in subdued neutrals like white, cream and gray.

Very Peri also calls for a softer aesthetic at the window, like you’ll find with Silhouette® Sheer Shadings or Vignette® Modern Roman Shades. Silhouette shadings feature sheer fabric attached to the back of horizontal, S-shaped fabric vanes, while Vignette shades feature elegantly tailored contoured folds. (Vignette shades are also available with flat folds.)

And no matter which shade of green appeals to you, all of the 2022 selections mentioned here pair beautifully with wood tones and natural fibers, such as woven textures, giving you a variety of options in styles, fabrics and materials, including the following.

Provenance® Woven Wood Shades are crafted by hand from natural woods, reeds, bamboo and grasses, and add warmth to a space. Available with an optional liner, these artisanal shades are made to minimize bowing, stretching or breaking.

Alustra Woven Textures® artfully blend unique fibers sourced from around the globe. A light-filtering alternative to traditional woven woods, the exclusive fabrics in this collection offer depth and visual interest, and are globally sourced to create a premium window treatment.
