But modernism dates back from the early to mid-twentieth century (i.e. 50s – 60s), while contemporary design gained popularity in the 70.

According to Elle Décor, “Contemporary is, by definition, what's happening in design at this very moment in time. This definition makes it more fluid and hard to pin down.
