Decorating Style

Back

Q:I want to change the look of my living and dining rooms. What's the latest trend?

A:

One trend I've been tracking is called "The Hollywood Style." You might think this trend would be over the top and ostentatious, but it's not. It's sleek and modest and uses reflective materials and luscious fabrics to create visual interest.

I'll bet you've seen mirrored furniture pieces. The look is showing up on everything from chests to tables to armoires. The reflective surfaces instantly update the styling of a room. Metallic finishes are also appearing on chairs and case goods. Add to the mix a sleek modern velvet sofa with lots of tufting (very trendy) and a pair of French chairs in silk, and you've truly captured The Hollywood Style. You might even consider adding a chandelier dripping with crystals and featuring a large drum-shaped shade.

The Hunter Douglas window fashions that best complement this style? My recommendations are Silhouette® window shadings and Skyline® Gliding Window Panels. Both offer great contemporary styling and wonderfully luxurious fabrics.

Finish your room with simple accessories, oversized family portraits, a big bouquet of flowers and a large mirror. Now you'll have the latest "look" in interior design. I don't know about you, but I could move right in!
