About Hunter Douglas

History of Innovation

1946

Looking to offer consumers an exceptionally durable and stylish window covering solution, Hunter Douglas developed the first lightweight aluminum venetian blind.

1985

Developed in 1985 in response to the energy crisis of the late 1970s, Duette® honeycomb shades were an industry innovation and the first product of its kind. The unique honeycomb construction actually traps air inside the cells to keep your home warmer in winter and cooler in the summer.

1991

The introduction of Silhouette® window shadings, with the innovative Signature S-Vane™, raised the industry bar for versatility and light control. With its ingenious design featuring soft fabric vanes suspended between two sheer fabrics, Silhouette window shadings set a whole new standard of style and beauty.

1994

Another exclusive Hunter Douglas design innovation, Vignette® Modern Roman Shades offered a fashionable alternative to typical Roman shades. Made of soft, overlapping fabric, in both contoured and flat fold styles, these shades differ from traditional Roman shades in that they have no messy cords or grommets on the back of the shade, and fully retract into the headrail for an unobstructed view.

1996

The introduction of the PowerRise® battery-powered remote control system eliminated lift cords and allowed shades to be raised and lowered with the touch of a button without the need for more costly hardwired motorization systems.

1997

An inspired, elegant alternative to traditional draperies, the introduction of Luminette® Privacy Sheers provided consumers with soft vertical vanes that block 99% of UV rays when closed, adjust to provide varying degrees of light control and stack discretely.

2006

The latest generation of honeycomb shades, our exclusive Duette® Architella® Collection offers superior energy efficiency benefits thanks to its patented honeycomb-within-a-honeycomb construction. A properly installed Duette® Architella® shade can reduce heat transfer at the window by up to 50%, and help reduce heating and cooling costs.

2007

Unlike any other window covering on the market, Pirouette® window shadings combined the personality of a classic fabric shade with the ability to control light in an entirely new way.

2007

Debut of Platinum™ Technology remote control system offered consumers a powerful new motorization system to control both individual and groups of windows throughout the home with the touch of a button.
